Mortgaging My Soul, Once Again

I've been worrying about Mike the past few days.

Work hasn't been too kind to him.  When he started his position there was no one to fill his position for 6 months prior, so he has an obscene amount of catchup work to do.  They are unwilling to higher a temp to help him with the backlog (it costs too much), they want him to do an amazing amount of overtime (which he doesn't get paid for, the wonders of being salary), they have him traveling for almost the entire month and a half, which means almost no work will be done during that period of time...

Today he had two people scream at him 'cause his work isn't done.  He's really getting upset by the whole thing.  I'm not really sure what I can do to help him, I really hate sitting here, watching him struggle.  He's now going in on Saturdays to make a small dent in what's going on.  I can feel his frustration when he gets home from work...which is getting later and later.

I feel partially guilty since I'm the one that talked him into leaving his last job and going into this one.  It just sounded perfect from what I heard...*sighs*.  Not that it's really my fault, I just can't help but feel that a small part of this is my fault.  *sighs again*.  I just wish that I could make it better for him, that's all.

I also find myself irritated that he would be traveling for that length of time.  I mean, I have no doubt that he'll be back several times during that 1.5 months, but I would like to see him occasionally :p.  And I know that he isn't happy with that arrangement.  They never ever told him that this amount of traveling would be involved or he never would have taken the job, at least i'm pretty sure of it.  But, now, what can you do *shrugs*

He told me tonight that, once it's been two years since his bankruptcy, he wants my help to start buying some properties and renting them out.  I told him that he has my blessing and what not but i'm not really sure how much help I can be to him.  But, we'll see if that all works out...
